Step 5
Securing a strip with finishing nail and nail punch.

Step 6
Drill holes on the tongue at a 45 degree angle every 10" (250 mm) and nail with shank nails using again a claw hammer and punch.

Measure and cut a strip of the required length to finish the first row. Leave a 1/4" (6 mm) space between the wall and the strip in each row. Use the remaining section to start the next row. This piece must be at least 6" (150 mm) longer or shorter than the strip used in the previous row to avoid aligning the joints.
Step 7

Use the same 45 degree nailing technique to secure the second and third rows.
Step 8

The subsequent rows can now be installed using a hardwood floor nailer. The last two or three rows will be installed using the hand nailing procedure.
Install the baseboards and quarter round, nailing them into the wall,
NEVER INTO THE FLOOR.
Step 9

Remember to leave enough distance between the joints by alternating with strips of different lengths. This will avoid aligning the joints.
